Christmas is my most favorite time of year. This season for us (beginning shortly before Thanksgiving and continuing on into the New Year) is filled with lots of opportunities to spend time with our extended families and incredible traditions that we get to experience not only as a couple, but as our own growing family unit. For us, at the center of all the excitement and joy of the season is a time for reflecting on the gift of Jesus to the world and to each of us personally. Isaiah says it so beautifully:
Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
As we have reflected on 2010, the thread of God’s peace has woven itself so beautifully into our lives. After waiting almost a year, we were able to sell our home in Carlinville. Throughout multiple temporary and part time jobs for both Mike and I, God has provided for our every request and every need. Even through an unexpected knee surgery for Mike, and the beautiful surprise pregnancy of our second son Noah, we have been blessed beyond what we could ever dream. Mike and I have looked at each each other, and then to our nearly two-year-old son Elijah (where has the time gone?), and marveled at how we feel like we are living some of the most incredible moments of our lives.
This Christmas, we find ourselves in a posture of thanksgiving; grateful for the family God has blessed us with, the friends we hold so dear and the miracles God allows us to be part of every day. Praying that this will be a wonderful Christmas of God’s peace in your life as well.
Philippians 4:4, 6-7 (NLT)
Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again – rejoice! Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
